Aug 28 HRchitect WebMingle Featured ExponentHR; Next Up Is Avature

August 28, 2009

Our weekly WebMingle is designed to give you some insight into the puzzling world of HR technology, discuss news from around the world that we find interesting, talk about upcoming events in our industry, and provide insightful interviews with people of our industry – who they are, what they do and why you should care. The WebMingle has become the most popular live weekly Internet show in the HR technology industry!

So what is a WebMingle? It is a meeting over the web where we do some business, socialize and yes, we mingle over the web. Thus, a WebMingle.

The 60-minute WebMingle on August 28th, the 33rd in our WebMingle series, featured Fidel Baca, Principal and Chief Marketing Officer for ExponentHR. It also featured another appearance by the HR Weasel (see below). It was another great WebMingle as Fidel has fantastic passion and insight into HR systems payroll, evolving technology solutions, and more. We touched on a number of issues related to that including:

  • What prompted Exponent Technologies to enter the HR space
  • What’s different about the ExponentHR approach to technology
  • What the real value of SaaS is in the HR industry
  • How the definitions and value of HRO and ASO are changing and how technology fits into that definition
  • How technology can “retain employees”, “reduce cost”, and “create scalable infrastructure” through the ExponentHR solution
  • How to justify investing in HR Technology during a tough economy
  • What some of the biggest challenges are in putting a system in place
  • …and more

We also had another special guest appearance in our studios from the HR Weasel, who is quickly becoming a regular on our show. As always, I told him to do a little research on our guest and their company before coming in, which he apparently did. He had some kind of issue with not wanting to enter some receipts from a recent “business” trip that he took and was looking to ExponentHR for some advice on getting it approved. It was another fun and interesting conversation and there is no doubt that we will continue to hear from him on future episodes.

HRchitect Cares – Hockey and HR Technology?

August 26, 2009

Two HRchitect employees have recently added to their families. No, they haven’t had children of their own but instead have become host families for the NAHL Junior Hockey team, the Texas Tornado, which is located in the same city as HRchitect’s headquarters, Frisco, Texas.

The Texas Tornado is the best of the best when it comes to exciting junior hockey and 16-20 year olds from all over North America dream of an opportunity to play with them. These amateur players and the organization look to the generosity of host families to take them in as part of their family for the season.

John KellyHRchitect’s VP of Sales and Marketing, Matt Lafata, is certainly no stranger to giving back to the community and no stranger to being a host family. His family hosted Ben Bishop back in the 2004-2005 season, and he has gone on to play for the St. Louis Blues in the NHL. Matt’s kids had a great experience with Ben and still stay in touch with him today. This year Matt will be hosting John Kelly #9.Posten

Matt (MW) Wiese, HRchitect’s Business Development Manager is also no stranger to community involvement and will be hosting a player for the first time. MW’s family is hosting James Poston #61.

Tornado hockey is extremely exciting and you can learn more about them and get tickets to upcoming games at www.tornadohockey.com.

Both Matt and MW, who picked up their new family members this past weekend, had similar responses when asked about hosting players. They see it as a way of helping out others – the player, their family, and the Tornado organization – and are looking forward to integrating them into their respective families.

This kind of story epitomizes what HRchitect and its people are all about and is just another small example of HRchitect employees showing the community that HRchitect Cares!

HRchitect’s Beauty Pageant Webinar Series Continues on September 4 with Talent Management Systems

August 24, 2009

The HRchitect Beauty Pageant series of webinars, which has become the buzz of the industry, returned with a bang last week after a two month hiatus. Next week will be another action-packed Beauty Pageant, this time covering Talent Management Systems.

This series of webinars covers a different area of HR technology with each event. The concept allows attendees to see presentations from up to six leading vendors in a fun and informative format where the audience votes on the winner at the conclusion.

Last week, Hodes iQ took the crown for Talent Acquisition Systems, previously held by iCIMS.

The next exciting pageant, the twelfth in the series, will be on Talent Management Systems and will take place on Friday, September 4. The participants will be top vendors in this space, Jobpartners, Saba, Salary.com, SumTotal Systems, and Workstream. Two of those contestants have won Beauty Pageants in other categories in the past.

The 90-minute webinar agendas will look like this:

Intro by HRchitect

Overview of the marketplace by HRchitect

Short vendor presentations (vendor order will be determine at random)

Q&A of vendors from the audience

Crowning of the Winner

Wrap-up

The sessions are moderated by Matt Lafata, VP of Sales & Marketing for HRchitect.

HRchitect developed a format to help guide each vendor with an outline of what should be covered during each portion of the pageant.  Since we have billed this as a beauty pageant, we tried to come up with pageant categories for vendors to loosely follow. Of course each vendor is free to follow their own format as this is simply a guideline:

Evening gown – To start off each portion, we are asking the vendor to come out in their best ‘outfit’ – corporate overview, history, specific identity, financial viability, marquee clients, leadership team, etc. This will be the grand entrance.

Swimsuit – Here the vendors will show some skin in this portion – usability, configurability, etc.

Talent – This portion will cover functionality, technology/integration, global ability, etc.

Interview – This will be the Q & A section from the audience.

These beauty pageants are designed to give the audience a quick overview of the leading vendors and we are looking for creativity in presentations. Some of the past participants have gotten extremely creative in their presentations and we thank them for their time and efforts in doing this.

In November, iCIMS won the Talent Acquisitions Systems pageant and Cornerstone OnDemand won the Talent Management Systems pageant. Then in December, GeoLearning won the Learning Management Systems pageant. In January, we had our Mid-Market Talent Acquisitions Systems pageant and iCIMS was crowned the winner and our Onboarding pageant where SilkRoad was the winner. In February we covered Employee Performance Management where SumTotal Systems won and then mid-market HRIS where Spectrum HR was the winner. In March it was all about Workforce Planning Systems and Infohrm walked away with the crown. April brought us Compensation Systems where Workstream walked away with the crown and then we finished up the first leg of beauty pageants with Time & Attendance Systems in June, where Legiant was crowned the winner.

To view any of these past pageants, please visit the beauty pageant part of our website. We have a full schedule of 2009 beauty pageants on our site for the remainder of the year, and several vendors have asked that we create beauty pageants around additional topics, which we are currently in the process of scheduling.

Watch this blog for updates and visit http://hrchitect.com/News/Pageant for a listing of upcoming HRchitect Beauty Pageants and to register so you won’t be left puzzled by HR Technology!

Aug 21 HRchitect WebMingle Featured Verifications, Inc.; Next Up is ExponentHR

August 21, 2009

Our weekly web mingle is designed to give you some insight into the puzzling world of HR technology, discuss news from around the world that we find interesting, talk about upcoming events in our industry, and provide insightful interviews with people of our industry – who they are, what they do and why you should care. The WebMingle has become the most popular live weekly Internet show in the HR technology industry!

So what is a WebMingle? It is a meeting over the web where we do some business, socialize and yes, we mingle over the web. Thus, a WebMingle.

The 60-minute WebMingle on August 21st, the 32nd in our WebMingle series, featured Samantha Hanson, EVP of Products and People with Verifications, Inc. It also featured the third appearance by the HR Weasel (see below). It was another great WebMingle as Samantha has tremendous passion and insight into onboarding. We touched on a number of issues related to that including:

  • Definition of onboarding
  • Green initiatives
  • Leading trends for onboarding
  • How to get the onboarding process started in an organization
  • Key metrics for onboarding
  • Differences between “Onboard” and “Pre-board”
  • How to effectively engage hiring managers in onboarding
  • What’s unique about onboarding after a merger and acquisition
  • …and more

We also had a special guest appearance in our studios from the HR Weasel. As you know, we always encourage people to call-in or visit our studios during the show. Since we share an office building with other tenants, there has been this person who has been bugging me in the hallway for weeks to get on the show since he wants to be on the radio. I told him to do a little research on our guest and their company before coming in, which he apparently did. Unfortunately he went out and bought a “Baby Onboard” sign for his car (although he doesn’t have a baby) because he thought Verifications, Inc. made those onboarding signs and wanted to talk about it. It was a fun and interesting conversation. I’m sure we will hear from him again next week.

Congratulations to our Talent Acquisition Systems Beauty Pageant Winner – HodesIQ!

August 21, 2009

Earlier today, HRchitect held the eleventh installation in our Beauty Pageant webinar series, this time focusing on talent acquisition systems. Participants included leading vendors in the talent acquisition systems world – Hodes IQ, HRsmart, iCIMS, SilkRoad, and Taleo.

All the presentations were fantastic and we had record attendance. At the end of the webinar, which featured a short overview of HRchitect and talent acquisition systems does, HodesIQ was crowned the winner. HRchitect would like to thank the vendors for participating and the attendees for judging the contestants.

HRchitect’s Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Tiffany Appleby, once again did a tremendous job in ensuring the pageant ran smoothly. It’s not an easy task coordinating each vendor’s presentation, setting up rehearsals, and then running the program the day of the event!

The HRchitect beauty pageant series of webinars has become the buzz of the industry since its debut in November 2008. This series of webinars covers a different area of HR technology with each event. The concept allows attendees to see presentations from up to six leading vendors in a fun and informative format where the audience votes on the winner at the conclusion.

Past Winners:

In November, iCIMS won the Talent Acquisitions Systems pageant and Cornerstone OnDemand won the Talent Management Systems pageant. • Where is the Talent Management Industry going over the next few years to help you make decisions around HR technology
  • What are the critical leverage points between different parts of Talent Management (i.e. recruiting, performance, learning, etc.)
  • What are the seven most common customer failures that cause Talent Management Systems to be replaced?
  • What is the governance model that is used to solicit input from users to prioritize changes to the system?
  • Are you a good customer of your Talent Management software vendor?
  • How you can become a “model customer” and why that is important
  • How to keep informed of the vendor product roadmap
  • Keeping a proactive relationship with customer support and vendor management
  • How to influence the vendor on what you need in the product, how to give feedback and how to best get your voice heard by vendor
  • How to determine whether you should continue to use your Talent Management System from a “best of breed” vendor vs. an ERP vendor
  • HRchitect will provide an update on available solutions in the market
  • What is relationship of your Talent Management Systems to the other Talent Management modules within your company?
  • How to make the decision on integration so that 1 + 1 + 1 = 5
  • Should you acquire other modules for an integrated Talent Management system vs. using modules from your ERP vendor?
